What is lacking in our country’s Federal Law that protects American workers from discrimination? There is legislation for pregnant women, for racial differences, for religious differences, for gender differences, and for disabilities. But what about legislation that protects homosexuals and transgender people? Currently, there is no Federal legislation that protects a person’s sexual orientation. And this is a huge problem.
Luckily, the Federal government is finally seeing where it is lacking. April of 2007 brought about the presentation of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2007 to Congress. This act will help even the score between all of the people who are commonly discriminated against in the workplace. The Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2007 will prohibit a person from suffering discrimination because of their sexual orientation or their gender identity. This is a huge step, since the only state that currently has legislation protecting sexual orientation is California.
